Top 7 - Recrap

Top 7 - Songs by Rod Stewart (aka I'm really old and I need to boost my CD sales so I'm just going to let American Idol butcher famous songs!)

Another week of people performing songs by an old dude that no one cares about. Seems that Kevin Covais' granny fans would appreciate this theme but alas.... he was booted in Top 11. Anyway, let's hope that Ace and Kellie do us proud and let's get on with the show! By the way, I have to say... Rod Stewart should sue AI for defamation - the videos of him in hot neon pants and Village People-sque clothes are scandalous! And who the hell names their kid "Alistair". Reminds me of the old guy in Passions who wants to makes everyone's lives miserable!

1. Chris Daughtry - What A Wonderful World

The only thing that was the highlight of Chris' "toned-down" (aka - no blinding strobe lights) performance was his perfectly arched and groomed eyebrows. Also, did he steal David Radford's outfit? It looks strangely similar to what David wore in the semi finals! The last three weeks showed that Chris had no versality whatsoever. Tonight was a bit different and I'll give Chris some points for changing up the style. Still, the performance was grade A fromage. I didn't find the performance very special, but then again, what's so special about Chris (who is the predetermined winner of AI5)!

2. Paris "Please Save the Puppies!" Bennett - These Foolish Things

Holy shit! Paris looks like JanayBot in the pre-performance video with Ron! Uncanny! Paris fails miserably on her attire - who would have thought to wear a bright red dress suit?! Paris, Paris, Paris.... this song choice falls somewhere between Carrie's "MacArthur Park" and Janay Castine's "Hit 'Em Up with Style". I thought it was utter crap and don't get why the judges fawned all over her performance. She just looked like an airline stewardess doing a karoake performance. That's what the air bags are for folks - to retch during the performance!

3. Taylor "Yes I am actually a DRUNK!" Hicks - You Send Me

Ryan and Taylor discuss the SNL spoof and clap along... Can someone just smack Taylor on the head and do us all a favour?! The George Clooney but a retarded version complete with Muppet antics tries to do Sam Cooke justice. Sadly.... he did not. I just wish someone would switch Taylor's stash of ritalin with some muscle relaxers and we can watch Taylor lie down on the stage and sing at the same time and that would be more entertaining than watching him spasm all over the stage. Sad.grim.pathetic - but the best of the night so far and it was the only slightly entertaining performance so far.

4. Elliott Yamin - It Had To Be You

Rod asks Elliott how old he is... maybe he wants to commit a certain felony? Creepy! Is it me or is Elliott's face more orange? I guess he's been in Kellie's makeup bag or something... Or Ace's for that matter. Yup, has to be Ace. Elliott was definitely great - he's improved steadily and the entertainment factor has improved as well. No more scary sex faces or grimaces (like what Rod did when Ace hugged him a little bit too hard)! Definitely the best of the night so far (and probably the only one putting in a better than decent performance)!

5. Kellie "VOTE FOR THE WORST" Pickler - Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

I cannot believe that Kellie can pronounce "bewitched", "bothered" and "bewildered". This is coming from a girl who can't pronounce "PAPER" for the love of God! Our VFTW pick has done us proud and wore a dress 2 sizes too small. Maybe it's cutting off her circulation and she can't sing? Oh wait... I don't think she could sing in the first place. Her performance was according to Kellie herself: "I think I butchered it!" Yes, thank you Kellie for summing up the reason why we picked up as our VFTW target! And here is the piece de resistance: She says at the end "I WON'T PUT YOU THROUGH THE TORTURE!!!!" Yay!

6. Ace "I love to hug people - too much" Young - That's All

Wait... Ace is toast and the performance hasn't started! Anyone who watched AI knows that singing a goodbye song = you're booted. Holy shit, Ace greased his hair back that it looks like a shiny cueball! He looks like the mechanic who works at the gas station 2 minutes away from my house - which is probably not a good thing seeing that the majority of Ace's fans haven't even had their periods yet! He basically sang the whole song in falsetto - which isn't exactly news to us. Ace would do better at being a high school caferia lady with that hairdo of his than a singer... Let's save Ace and keep him in the competition! Imagine this: Ace vs Kellie final two! That would be a VFTWer's dream!

7. Katharine "Kat Pee" McPhee - Someone to Watch Over Me

Thank God and everything that is holy... Kat is not going to sing my favourite song "The Way You Look Tonight". Right off the bat, Kat gives a couple of eye fucks to the camera and there's an abnormally large frame of her face that didn't need to be shown - which occurs through most of the song. Who the hell bought that fucking ugly necklace she's wearing? It's like straight out of Aladdin! Overall, she does a really good job and I can't say anything negative about her singing. The best of the night overall.

Final Thoughts:

Well... this can be said: This theme was a better theme than the last 3 weeks or so. Most of the contestants failed to impress me but that's nothing new. Most of them underwhelmed me and that's only an understatement. Ace and Kellie were the stars of the show (in every single wrong way!) and hopefully these two will survive the elimination. Rod was a great commentator on the contestants and he should replace Paula as a judge!

Who Should Be in the Bottom Three: Paris, Chris, Kellie (only because she bombed on vocals)
Who Should Go: Paris - she needs to die already!
Who Will Go: Elliott (sadly - I really think he will go)

And lastly, don't forget to support Kellie Hickler for VOTE FOR THE WORST! ;)

Tonight's Show Was Better Than That

Ace gave a terrible performance, Kellie's singing was sub-par compared to the last few weeks (but still better than what she did during the semifinal round in February), and the other five singers were excellent.

IMHO, Katharine and Paris gave their best performances of the season tonight.

And despite "Pickles"' singing, not only do I think she won't get voted-off, I think there's a strong chance she won't even make The Dreaded Bottom Three. VFTW is making an impact.

What's next week?? TV theme songs?? Songs made famous by other Idols?? Punk rock of the 1980's?? Late-1990's Boy-Band Hits??

Re: Tonight's Show Was Better Than That

I'd love to hear the boy band songs. It'd be a night full of fromage!

Re: Tonight's Show Was Better Than That

I say let's bring on a full omelet's worth of cheese (not that every episode since "VFTW Week" hasn't been CheddarCity...) But to have boyband night and not have Ace prove that he can't even do that without being woefully out of his league would be cheating us all of a superbly hideous performance.

Which personally, I love. I'm fully stocked up on my lactaid this year (which I've really needed to get through AI5), so here's hoping they continue to sling the Velveeta.

Re: Tonight's Show Was Better Than That

I still cannot get over on how John Stevens IV was eliminated the week before Big Band Week!!!

Poor Ace! LOL!

Kellie gave quite possibly the worst performance of the finals so far. A true VFTW classic!

Bwah! Funny.

And who the hell names their kid "Alistair".

Well, they are British and anyway that kid was cute as hell. I want to hug him and squeeze him and call him George.

Paris fails miserably on her attire - who would have thought to wear a bright red dress suit?!

I thought she looked like a flight attendant. WTF?

Who Will Go: Elliott (sadly - I really think he will go)

I don't think so. I think Ace is so very, very gone. If DialIdol is to be believed it ain't even close.

I typed up the review before I saw DialIdol's results. They're pretty much representative of who's in the Bottom 3 at least. They were wrong last week so hopefully Ace will be safe (just to piss off people LOL) and someone else will go.

I still think Ace and Elliott will be in the bottom 3 regardless. We'll find out tonight lol!

Last week they had Bucky and Ace as the bottom two with Ace scoring the lowest. However, the difference between their scores was only 0.275, with a margin of error of 1.8 that is a virtual tie. Last week, I don't think Elliot was actually in the bottom three, I think they just put him there to get more votes for him going into this week. So, I think the scores last week were essentially correct.

This week Ace's DialIdol score is not even close to any other contestant. His score is 20.5. The next lowest score is Paris with 24.376, even with a margin of error of 1.687 that still leaves Ace in dead last. I know it's not scientific or anything and they have been wrong in the past, but this week I think it's right.

Ace is a goner.

Maybe the Idol producers want to keep the teenyboppers watching so they'll keep in Ace and vote out Elliott. It's known to happen.

Oh well. If Ace goes, then he goes.

I would have been soooo soooo happy, especially after he revealed his "bastard love child of The Simpsons lunch lady and Furio from the Sopranos (or maybe Steven Seagal)" look in a suit that was too big for him. And the tension from the hair pull even cut down on the creeptastic eye-violation he usually puts me through.

I also would have been jumping up and down if he had somehow outlasted Chris or Elliot. That would have been almost as great as it will be when we VFTW keeps the pickle in the sandwich longer than the meat.

Why weren't the judges totally bothered that Hickler was an entire measure OFF at the end of the song? I thought for sure that Randy was going to skewer her and Simon would drag her by the hair over the red-hot coals, but they did nothing. Nothing! Even Paula (what was with the boobs last night?) was kind to her and had to call out how "fabulous" she looks week after week. What the hell?

[info]cry_me_ariver

April 21 2006, 16:25:04 UTC 6 years ago

its just so hilarious when the judges dodge criticising a turd-tacular performance by their little cash-cow favorites with some awkward... 'yeah, welll.... not the best for me... erm... >sip of ecstasy laced cola< but you look so FABULOUS tonight {then to audience} does't she look great}..." Or Simon's "Well, it really wasn't good, but I don't think that's gonna matter, because AMERICA (i.e. we're so trying to promote that America should) LOVES YOU" while one song later reminding someone that they can't rely on performance value because it's a singing competition.

I love bald-faced insincerity like that.

I'm sorry, but I highly disagree about Katharine. The song was too low for her, and ever since a few weeks ago everytime she sings I notice MAJOR strain. I don't think she's the type of singer she thinks she is (jazzy belter.)

I am so sick of Ace and his goddamn falsetto. Ace, it may impress the dim-witted judges, but NO RESPECTABLE MALE SINGERS use falsetto. Rarely in Broadway, never in opera (according to a guy in my communications class whose father is an opera singer and who is a tenor himself.) Stop acting like you're some sort of goddamned countertenor and get over it.

Yeah, his falsetto annoys me too.

Ace, it may impress the dim-witted judges, but NO RESPECTABLE MALE SINGERS use falsetto.

What made you think that Ace is a "respectable male singer"?

Ace is not a Broadway singer and he certainly is not an opera singer. Falsetto is used in pop music all the time. Whether or not pop music is respectable is a matter for debate. But men have been singing falsetto in pop music at least since the 1950's.

Also, castrati used to be quite popular back in the day.

Yeah, you're right... I guess I tend to be a snob about this at times. But I DO think he's relying on it too much.

[info]praderwilli

April 19 2006, 21:21:39 UTC 6 years ago

I actually agree with you. Ace over-uses it. I hate falsettos in general, anyway. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

For some reason Paula Abdul goes weak in the knees for a falsetto. She loved it when Corey Clark and Rickey Smith sang in falsetto, too. I guess she likes guys who don't have any balls. Or maybe it's because she's always whacked on pain pills.

[info]sporkgoddess

April 19 2006, 21:26:09 UTC 6 years ago

Oh, I dislike falsetto too! It creeps me out.

Hahaha... "Ooooh, high notes! Preeeetty!" That would explain her infamous (to me) "Chris, was that a high C!?" remark. Oh God that pissed me off. I never really got why Paula's on the show... come on, we've all heard her sing. She wouldn't even pass preliminary auditions to get on the show.

Randy's easily impressed with it too. I'll never forget when he told that one soprano "I loved the falsetto!" (paraphrased.) Which girls don't have. Sigh. At least Simon doesn't pretend to know the technical terms.

Ha! I don't remember that. Randy actually told a girl that she had a falsetto? Clearly, he does not understand the term. What a dumbass.

[info]openarms

April 19 2006, 22:01:07 UTC 6 years ago

I was wondering about that too. I was like "Aren't falsettos for .... guys?" For a music "genius" he is, he ain't all up there with the lingo.

[info]cry_me_ariver

April 21 2006, 15:56:55 UTC 6 years ago

Randy's such a short-busser. I'm so tired of him referring to his "vast musical knowledge" and his "wealth of experience" and then backing it up with praise for Kevin Covais and telling Jasmine Trias she had "the pipes".

At least Paula's wackiness is substance induced.

I Only Wished.....

...that the Idols had done Rod Stewart's big 1970's and 1980's hits on the show instead of standards.

Could you imagine Kellie belting-out "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"?

THAT would have been one of the most memorable moments in television history!

Maybe they'll have a "Hits Of The 1970's" week while Kellie's still in the competition which will give her a chance to sing it!

[info]praderwilli

Re: I Only Wished.....

Could you imagine Kellie belting-out "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"?

That would have been pure comedy gold. But I bet McKatScreechPheever would have sang "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" And all the boys that want to sleep with her would have been on constant re-dial for Kat the entire two hours post-show.

Chris probably would have sang "Maggie May", which would have been far more entertaining than whatever it was that he did sing. I can't remember because I fell asleep last night during his performance because it was so bloody boring.

Oh yeah, I remember! He sang "What a Wonderful World" and he sang it like he thought the idea of a "wonderful world" would be thoroughly depressing. Whatevsky.

I thoroughly enjoyed last nights show. There was actually decent singing and I didn't think, "Why the fuck am I watching this?"

I absolutely loved that Paula "outed" Kellie as an actress.

I thought Chris's song was wonderful but I have loved that song for a long time. I love Taylor. He is just so damn weird and wonderful.
That would be a good song name "weird and wonderful"
